Part 8 -  Traffic Exchanges

Another no cost way to attract traffic is through the use of ‘traffic exchanges’.   These are very simply just groups of people who join an online network to exchange website traffic.   The operating principle is that you register for an exchange to place your brief ad, then click on the ads for other people who have done the same in order to earn the credits needed to have your ad displayed.

How They Work

Typically, you might earn 1 or 2 credits for each ad and site that you click through to, which will in turn earn you the opportunity to have 1 or 2 people click on your ad and on through to your site.   So, basically, you are “exchanging traffic” with other folks who are also trying to promote something.

The rub is that nearly all who use these exchanges are far more interested in selling their own stuff than in buying yours.  In fact, many use systems to enable them to visit a maximum amount of sites in a minimum amount of time, or to even do it automatically without even viewing the site.   You can also pay for traffic which eliminates the need to personally visit other sites at all.

That said, there are large numbers of people who actually do visit each site that click through to and spend as much as 10-15 seconds scanning the content.   But remember, they really aren’t there to buy.  Rather, they are doing it for the primary reason of earning credits so that others will visit their sites.

So, What Good Are They?

Therefore, it is important to use traffic exchanges that will insure that you get real benefit.   The key concept is that you must not use the exchanges to try to sell something, as do most uninformed users.
Instead, promote a “sqeeze page” or a “pre-sell” page that offers valuable,  yet free information in return for a name and email address.

Not only, will this add them to your opt-in list, but you can include offers to sell things in your free followup email course or ebook that you are providing in return for them opting in to your list.   In addition, those who do opt in are likely have significant interest in what you are offering, so they should be very good future prospects.

The Best Traffic Exchange

There are a number of traffic changes available, but the best available that I know of is Traffic Swarm.  It is still the biggest and the best.  You can use this in two ways:

  1. Build credits for your ads by clicking through on the ads of others, which is time consuming though free.
  2. Establish a Pro membership for a small monthly cost to “buy” your traffic, which can supplement your paid for traffic.

In summary, the best thing about traffic exchanges like Traffic Swarm is that they provide a good opportunity to build your list.  In addition, if you use the affiliate links to attract other members you can earn even more credits through their efforts.  There are members who have built literally tens of thousands of credits in this way, and they can can really use these exchanges effectively to build their lists to create downstream sales opportunities for themselves.

For that reason, I highly encourage you to consider going pro, as the opportunity for list building and downstream sales can be very large when the right strategy is used.  Enroll in Traffic Swarm here.

Part 7 – Press Release Marketing

Press release marketing is not dissimilar from Article marketing.  Essentially, you issue a press release to online press release sites about an event that is happening in your business.   This could be a new offering, the launch of a new website, or some event that could substantially impact the interest in your website.    There are optimal ways to write press releases, and guidance on that can be obtained from the various internet press release services like:

PR Web Press Release Newswire -   Paid Service
Express Press Release Network -  Free Service
Free Press Release -  Free Service

If you are introducing something of real value, the use of a paid service like PRWeb  is much more likely to get your press release read, or actually picked up by another media company.   If so, this can result on substantial direct traffic back to your website

The free sites do give you some exposure, but the primary value is in establishing ‘backlinks’  to your site from various places on the web.  By using some of the larger and higher authority PR sites, you’ll get much better “link juice” back to your site to improve SEO and site ranking.

Just as for Article Marketing, it is important to do a bit of keyword research to find those that are specifically related to your website, but which don’t have excessive competion.  Write your release around those selected keyword phrases, and your release can show up on the web with very high rankings.

As said before, you need to use a specialized format for press releases.  Here are a few tips:

  • Just as for articles, include the keywords in the title, as well as in the body of the text.
  • The press release needs to be in a ‘newsworthy’ format much like you’d seed in the “News” section of a corporate website.   Typically, you want to be ‘announcing’ something that has happened or is about to happen.   For example: ” XYX company or person has just  launched…. etc.”
  • Include your ‘anchor text’ links in the body of the release to the extent you are allowed by the PR service.

Press release marketing can be a very effective way to attract traffic to your site, as well has to establish relatively high quality backlinks for SEO purposes.

Getting Traffic for Your Website – Part 4

Here is yet another important strategy that you can employ to attract traffic to your website.

Part 4 – Forum Marketing

Whether you are new to network marketing or have a great deal of experience, there is a substantial opportunity not only to attract traffic to your website, but also to learn a great deal through participation in several of the online Internet marketing forums.  These forums are generally well targeted, and it’s likely that you’ll be able to find one or more forums that focus on your particular niche area.

Not only are those people who participate in those forums likely very interested in your niche and how you are personally participating in the niche, there are also many very knowledgeable people in these forums from which you can learn.

You simply find a forum or two that you are most interested in, then join the conversation.   Each time you post in a forum you have an opportunity to include your signature file which would include a link back to your website.  Thus, those who read your posts may well click through to your site.

Your Signature File is Important..

Because each comment you post includes your signature file, your links can be posted many places in several conversation threads throughout each forum.  If your posts are interesting, and your signature file is compelling with an attractive call to action, the likelihood of people clicking through to your site can be quite high.

If you were to spend a mere 20 to 30 minutes per day, chatting in 2 to 3 forums that are focused on your niche, you could well attract 15 to 20 well targeted click throughs to your site each day.

Here are a few things to consider when participating in forums:

  • Do not spam your posts as this can easily get you banned from the forum.  In addition to ruining your reputation.
  • Be sure that you’re adding real value to each conversation you join.
  • Otherwise, the people on the forum will soon learn that you are not there to contribute meaningfully and will no longer pay attention to you.

Forums are great for your business because…

  • There are forums for virtually any business or interest area you may have.
  • They are gathering places and communities for people with shared interest and enable you to share your knowledge to a targeted audience.
  • Effective participation in those forums enables you to establish a reputation in the field and to achieve expert status among your peers.
  • This in turn amounts to a very effective pre-sell for potential customers.
  • And finally, it will help you achieve your ultimate aim of attracting traffic to your website.

Without question, you do need to establish a favorable presence in your selected niche to be an effective marketer, and forums offer you a great opportunity to do so.  Don’t hesitate to ask questions when  you can’t otherwise find answers for them in the forum, and don’t hesitate to answer questions and provide advice on the topics about which you are particularly knowledgeable.
Forums are just like any other community.  It will serve you well to be polite and purposeful in your comments and advice.  The bottom line is that you need to provide good input in order to gain respect and get good output from the forum.  It is not good form to try to make sales pitches in the forums, rather they are a place to offer advice and share your knowledge.  As you gain respect, people are more likely to click through on your links in your signature file.

Here a number of forums that are particularly appropriate for the network and affiliate marketing niche:

The Warrior Forum – this is one of the more popular in the well attended forums attended by the ‘warriors’ in the Internet marketing industry.  It is focused largely on how to make money and find success and the conversation is lively and timely.  The members are likely to offer substantial discounts on the products they may be selling to other members, as well as to it but as to provide really good advice.

SitePointForum – this particular forum is  focused more for designers and developers rather than marketers.  They also include a place for the posting of a user written articles.

In summary, for marketing is something that you have to be consistent at in order to be effective.  You have to be known as a contributor of good advice in conversation.  But if you do spend 15 or 20 minutes a day participating in forums, you can drive additional well targeted traffic to your website.

If you’re relatively relative newcomer to network marketing, and on a tight budget, use of marketing forums can be a very effective way to drive traffic to your website.  In addition, it will provide you a lot of new information and knowledge.
