The use of an autoresponder for online marketing email campaigns to your contact list is a given.   This article is about a way to use auto responders for niche  lead generation that you may not have tried before, or may even have forgotten about.

The reality is that this online marketing strategy has been used for a long time, but because it’s so simple, many may have neglected its use. If that is you, then perhaps you need to rethink your position on this tried and proven tactic.  Here’s why!

I’m sure you’re well aware that new your users totaling in the millions come online each everyday. The reason most of them come online is to get new information that might help them solve a problem.  The fact of matter is that many of these new to the Internet persons may well never been exposed to the marketing tactic we’re discussing. So let’s get on with it.

Step #1: Set up a new project directory on your web site that is password assessable.   This is where your opt in subscribers will gain access to your information. Name your project “Secret Steps to Incredible Weight-loss”, or something to that effect that is relevant to your list. The project and informational sequence needs to have a compelling name that will cause the your subscribers to want it.

Step #2: Find some really good reports new books articles or perhaps software that  is particularly relevant to your niche market. Upload the information to your new directory where your subscribers will be able to access it when they fill out the autoresponder form for the new list of prospects you are building.  Be sure to offer this information for free.

Step #3: Importantly, you should now prepare a series of autoresponder messages, say 5 to 7, that would go out to your list. They should create buzz about “My Secret Steps..” and what it is all about and offering them an opportunity to go to your “sales page”.  Each of the messages should provide a tidbit or two of good solid information. The idea is to sequence them in a way that they’ll generate an increasing buzz as the reader progresses through. Arrange them to be sent out over a week or so.

Step #4: Prepare conversational sales page about “My Secret Steps…” and be sure to let them know up front that this information is free.  Make the subscriber feel that there part of and important and special event should they choose to opt in to your new informational stream.

It’s important to have an end date to your offer, and that you in fact do shut down the offer the end date is reached. This is to maintain credibility with your new and old subscribers, as you have represented you brand new free offer as special to them.

So what is the payoff?

When both old and new subscribers have opted in to your new list, you can then end out new notifications to them about what’s going on with “My Secret…” Then, of course, when you gain their trust by providing them good content information, you have the earned the right to present opportunities for them to purchase other products for which you are an affiliate in the same niche market.

So, we go ahead and try the sequential autoresponder marketing tactic. It’s tried and proven method that still works and it can still be very profitable when used in the right way.

If you want to learn more about lead generation and and the use of autoresponders for internet marketing, I recommend that you consider GVO Web Hosting as your one stop shop for unlimited domain hosting, autoresponders, video hosting, webinar hosting, lead generation  and internet marketing training.

Email Marketing Campaign Design

A good email marketing campaign design results from several things.  Keeping it simple is the first and foremost, but if it contains a flashy headline and opening with no real content, you are unlikely to get the results you desire.   People avoid the ‘gimmicky’, so if yours is, you should consider a redesign as outlined below.

A “Newsletter” is Better

The Nielson Norman Group reports that the average email newsletter reader spends an average of fifty seconds in review.   However, a simple email is likely to hold a readers attention for only about four seconds.   So, a newsletter is a better choice because it will likely hold your readers attention for ten times as long. This now brings us to the ideal design of the newsletter or email.

Design Copy for Target Audience

What is most important is to establish an email marketing design that will strongly attract attention, but also hold it for an extended period of time.   Most consumers only read a small fraction of the emails they get, and most of the ones that are actually opened are only scanned for content.  Different people react to different advertising stimuli, so you need to be sure to design your copy in a way that targets the kind of audience you are trying to appeal to.

A Personalized Compelling Subject Line

Because most emails are never opened, it is critical that your subject line stand out from the rest to ever have a chance.  Most email marketers personalize the subject line, as well as the actual body copy.   Your subject line must be presented in a way that clearly promises a unique and exceptional solution to a particular problem or issue.  Alternative, the subject line may challenge a commonly held belief or notion that your target audience may hold.  Take a few days to list the subject lines that have compelled you to actually read an incoming email, then analyze them to understand why they worked with you.

Additive Colors and Graphics Can Help

Another of the key elements in your email design may involve the use of colors and graphics in ways that  that quickly call  the attention of your readers to key benefit statements and calls for action.  At the same time, be sure that the colors do not impact the flow of the narrative in a negative by integrating them smoothly, and that any graphics employed have a clear purpose other than to simply be pretty or attractive.  Colors and graphics must be a clear element of the message you are trying to convey.

Key Elements/Challenges Upfront

Additionally, recognizing that you really have only 4-5 seconds to gain the attention of the typical email scanner, you need to present your copy in a way that the key elements and challenges of your message stand out quickly.   Furthermore, they must be presented in a way that not only grabs attention, but also compels the reader to continue on to get even better information.

Clear Call for Action

Finally, your email marketing message must convey a clear and compelling call for action from the reader.  Be very specific about what you want them to do and provide them all the information and contact information they will need to get the acton accomplished quickly.

How Does the New FTC Guidance Affect You?

FTC Guidance Dramatically Impacts Endorsements and Testimonials

The new FTC guidance regarding the use of endorsements and testimonials in your product and service promotions can profoundly impact your business model.  It will serve you well to look into this in depth.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, and am in no way either endorsing nor providing a testimonial regarding the new FTC guidance, nor is this pretending to be in any way a legal interpretation of the guidance.  To insure your personal compliance, I strongly recommend that you consult with an attorney who is expert in the interpretation and application of FTC regulations regarding your particular business.

The new FTC guidance release is excerpted below.  You can read the entire 80 or so pages of the Text of The Federal Register Notice here.

The apparent bottom line implications for network, internet  and affiliate marketers are that we now must be far more careful about the use of claims in our review endorsements and the testimonials we employ.  The use of testimonials are especially problematic.

For example, the simple use of  a “Results not Typical” disclaimer for testimonials no longer provides a “safe harbor” as noted in the 3rd paragraph of the release.  Now, if we employ testimonials claiming ‘not typical’ results, we must apparently also include a verifiable disclosure of exactly what is typical.   How are we supposed to know that?   Are testimonials no longer a viable promotional tool?

The 4th paragraph summarizes the new guidance on revealing the “material connections” between endorsers and advertisers.  Basically, any blogger or internet marketer must clearly reveal what and how they stand to gain from any endorsement and/or review of a product.   If you are an affiliate marketer, you must evidently be totally up front with that fact, making it very clear that you stand to profit monetarily in whatever way from your endorsement of a product.

So, I recommend that you take action now to consult with your attorney, if need be, and to thoroughly review your “terms of sale” and “disclaimer notices” to insure compliance.  The FTC is clearly not an agency you want to have to deal with.

The really simple definition of eCommerce is “the electronic exchange of goods or services.”   Given some degree of experience in online marketing, you could actually make some money as a consultant to business owners by teaching them the fundamentals of e commerce.

For example, you could use a website that you have already set up for e-commerce to demonstrate the principles of e commerce.  There are likely to be number of small businesses in your area who do not yet have an Internet presence, and you could become a consultant to them.

Local Small Business Market

It would be relatively simple to make direct contact with the owners small businesses to discuss with them how they can benefit from a presence online.  Their presence could be as simple as offering information about their products or services to prospective customers, even if they don’t intend to sell the products through use of the Internet.

Most localized to small businesses have an established and routine customer base.  However, in order to survive over the long term, they knew need to continually bring in new customers.  Establishing a presence online, which is targeted at needs and people who are local to the business is a key way of establishing a greater local presence in the minds of consumers.

Use Your Knowledge

You can use what you know about search engine optimization and Internet marketing to put together an offer of services that adds value in several ways to these businesses for which you can charge a fee.  Basically, you could prepare an online marketing and business plan that would enable the business owner to establish a presence on the Internet.  That would attract new customers, your.

If you haven’t done this kind of thing before, it’s understandable you may be reluctant to do so or feel that you’re unqualified.  However, consider that there are literally hundreds of turnkey e-commerce packages available.

How can you effectively use  article marketing as a primary means of promoting your internet business?

Why is this strategy so powerful and cost effective?

There has always been a partnership between newspapers and business, wherein companies were allowed to write article content for the newspapers.  In return, the newspaper would print a bio piece on the company. These kinds of exchanges have been around for long time, but the Internet has provided an easier way to match up these writers with companies.

When the internet arrived on the scene, internet marketing was inevitably quick to follow. Then, article marketing soon became an integral part of internet marketing, and vice-versa.  Article market is proven to be an effective way to get essentially free advertising.

Business Promotion and the Internet

Businesses have found that they can create articles as a major and beneficial element of their internet marketing campaigns. The articles serve to raise the presence of the company that has mounted the Internet marketing campaign.

There many ways to do Internet marketing, but most can involved considerable cost. Because publication of articles is generally free or at very little cost, it is proven to be a very effective way to use the internet to market your products and services. Therefore,  you need to consider article marketing as one of the best ways to achieve internet marketing success.

This method  is one of the most powerful ways to achieve results in a small amount of time for three main reasons:

  1. B y publishing your articles on popular sites with high page ranks, you have the opportunity to incorporate the critical back links to your site that are necessary for good page ranking.
  2. In addition, the links that are incorporated in the articles give the readers a means to click directly through to your site.
  3. Finally, good articles help to establish you as an authority regarding the subjects of your website, and help to build the trust among the readers that is so so essential to cause him to either subscribe to your newsletter or to purchase your products.

My Article NetworkIn summary, article marketing is one of the most successful strategies to employ for successful Internet marketing. The articles enable you you to establish yourself as an authority, build back links to your site for page ranking, and provide convenient links for the readers to find your website.

However, this method of internet marketing is very competitive and it is very helpful to employ a bit of automation for your publications. You can not only automate the publication of your articles to a variety of websites throughout the internet, but you can also semi-automate the process of making the articles unique for each publication.

There are a variety of tools available to do this, but one of the most effective and easiest to use is a product called My Article Network by Brad Callen.

Limitations of Internet Marketing – Managing Them

While online internet marketing is fast becoming the main way for advertising, there are certainly some Internet marketing limitations that have to be dealt with.  Even though online advertising is a  very good way to reach many people and is fairly inexpensive, there certainly are limitations that you need to be well aware of in order to make your campaigns more effective and to achieve better business results.

The TV Commercial Syndrome

One of the emerging limitations with regard to advertising online that people are beginning to treat it in much the way they treat television.  They simply choose to view or watch only what they prefer to watch, and ignore the rest.  We all know full well that people tend to use television commercials to go for snacks or to use the bathroom.  The same is becoming true with the Internet as people don’t really like to watch “commercials”  online.  Therefore,  you have to be pretty subtle in the way that you present your advertisements.

Linking Limitations

One of the more used online marketing techniques to achieve high ranking for your website is to get other webmasters to place links or graphics connecting their site to yours.  This link exchange strategy currently works fairly well, so long as you’re willing to link back to other sites as well.  It stands to reason that the other sites would not be interested in posting your links on their sites without some kind of reciprocal arrangement.

The main problem with this is that, while a limited number  links or graphics aren’t too bad, when you start getting dozens of them or more your site can begin to be quite cluttered.  A good way around this is to use a top article marketing service to build a growing list of quality back links to your site over time.

SEO Issues

How the major search engines work is another concern that has to be dealt with when doing Internet advertising.  Search engines rank your sites according to how the algorithms that drive them interpret the content of your site as being relevant to the search queries.  There’s a bit of science mixed with art in the task of search engine optimization, but it is basically the practice of properly employing key search terms on your site in a way that the search engines will give you high ranking.

The problem with this is that in order to write for the search engines, it may compromise your ability to prepare good ad copy.  For those people who do visit your site, excessive use of the keywords in inappropriate places make cause a site to read unnaturally and unattractively to those who view it.  Because readers are becoming more more sensitive to poorly done search engine optimized sites, they’re likely to click away from your site before reading your ad copy.

Building Your Email List

Yet another limitation of online marketing is that it’s often very difficult to get people to sign-up for your e-mail list.  When you’re dealing with them face-to-face in a physical store for example, you can say something to them on a personal level, or give them something extra to convince them to a given give you their E-mail addresses.  On the other hand, those people who do sign up for your e-mail list from the sign-up form on your website are pretty likely to have a pretty strong interest in what you have to offer.

When they do register for your list, it is very important to have an effective email marketing campaign management system.

These are just a few of the many issues you may run into when putting together your online marketing strategy, but it is possible to overcome them with a bit of work and creativity.  In addition, regardless of the limitations, keep in mind that your information does have a good chance of reaching a very large number of people on the Internet.

Article Marketing for Internet Marketing Success

Now A Brief Story

First let me tell you a brief story about how I started using articles to enhance my Internet marketing efforts.  Upon retirement from my corporate life,  was clear to me that government social security and my fixed income pension was not going to provide me the kind of living that I wanted to have over the long term.

So, like you and many others, I embarked on a process of using internet marketing to supplement  my income.  Like 98% of others who’ve tried, at first I failed miserably.  Then one day, a mentor caused a light bulb to come on in my head.

I knew that I was pretty good at writing and developing compelling sales copy from my experience in the in the corporate world. Thus, it became pretty clear to me that one of my strengths could be leveraged in the form of a turning out short articles.

What Did I Just Do?

What you may have realized is that I just revealed to you one of the keys to successful article marketing.   Perhaps you have figured out that an essential key strategy in article marketing is to tell true  short stories.   It stands to reason that your prospects and customers  love stories, particularly when they are true.

The reality is that most prospects know when you’re stretching the truth. And so,  when you are writing an article on a particular product or service, it’s critical that you make your story  believable.  If you don’t you’ll certainly lose the trust of your readers and sales will be few and far between.

In addition, even if you do make a sale and the product doesn’t do what you said it would do, the customer is likely to first ask for a refund, and will probably  never listen to you again.

Yet Another Truth

There is another truth about marketing successful way on the Internet using article marketing.

That is that you need a successful medium for use to get your articles published.  There are a variety of article networks, not the least of which is EzineArticles.Com.  Christopher Knight is the owner  and he advocates that you must keep your articles short and to the point.  His suggestion is that you keep your articles between a minimum of say 250 words and a maximum of no more than 1000 words.

We are bombarded with things to read on the Internet,  and your readers are looking to get information quickly.  So, it’s really important that you get to the key points of your articles quickly and you tell your story very efficiently and with a clear purpose.

You Do Need Automated Article Marketing

Another great automated article marketing network service you should consider is Brad Callen’s “My Article Network” .  His system enables you to easily publish your articles to a growing network of over 10,000 blog sites.  You can also incorporated up to three relevant text links pointing back to your website to build the important backlinks that are critical for SEO.

The Art of Quality Email Design

So you are ready to start your new email campaign and you have made your choice about the right email marketing software.   Now, you need to understand and decide on the factors that are needed to insure a quality email campaign.  A number of quality tips and techniques for this are summarized from the advice of many noted experts in the field of email and online marketing.

Make Sure You Are Targeting Your Recipients

Many email campaigns fail due to failure to clearly understand who was being targeted with the campaign.  Make sure that your list of recipients have already expressed interest in your subject in one way or another, either by opting in to your subject area or by prior purchases of similar products.  Understand how customer location and prior buying habits will likely affect or impact the success of your campaign.

Personalize Your Emails

You should always address you email prospects by name if at all possible.   In addition, be sure that your emails are shown to be coming from the same address every time.  Building trust is a key strategy for email marketing, and the more personal you make the messages, the more trust you can build over time.   In addition, provided you continue to offer value in your emails, they will have a much better chance of being opened and read.

Use a Very Simple and Readable Layout

Make your copy clearly understandable and easy to navigate.  You are likely to have your readers attention for only an instant, so make sure the key essence of your message is up front.    Don’t overuse flashy graphics, large fonts and other “loud” looking items.

Keep Your Copy Succinct

Again, don’t be tempted to expand excessively on the product or service you are offering.  Use economical language and short paragraphs. Keep your line length to a maximum of sixty characters.  If you need to expand on something in detail, link your readers to a more detailed landing page on your website.

Be Sure to Include a Clear Call to Action

After all, the purpose of your email should be to get your prospects to actually do something.  Otherwise, what’s the point of taking their valuable time and wasting yours.   You could be asking them to make a purchase, register for a contest,  fill out a survey, etc.    It’s imperative that you actually have a clear call to action in your emails.

Create a Truly Compelling Subject Line

This is the absolute front line of your campaign, and it will make or break your success.  If your recipients are not somehow immediately intrigued by your subject line, you have virtually no chance of getting your email read regardless of how compelling your copy is.  However, it is very important that  you use honest, though compelling copy.  Avoid the typical hot button phrases like “Make Money”.   Be creative in developing copy that tells the truth, but in a way that will likely pique the recipients interest at the same time.

Success can’t be entirely guaranteed by following these principles in the creation of your campaign, but your chances for achieving your objectives will improve dramatically.

Here is my call to action for you. Click on the links below to get a variety of additional timely tips on designing effective email campaigns.
