Twitter has become all the rage in Internet and online surfing circles. Basically, twitter is better described as micro-blogging because you are limited to only 140 characters in each posting.

It can be easily used as a way to stay in essentially constant contact with a circle of friends. It can be used to develop a list of followers who are interested in hearing about what you’re doing at any specific moment in time. A number of celebrities, politicians and even network newscasters use twitter to post the latest bits on the news.

You can think of twitter as a form of blogging, in which you submitted a series of very short posts onto your twitter site about a topic or several topics instead of one single long post.

Business Use of Twitter

The ways that you could use twitter for business and profit are probably limited only by your own imagination. However, it is certainly limited in how much communication you can actually do with twitter posts. Rather, the basic way to use twitter for profit is to use the posts as a convenient way to refer your followers to a sales page or to your business website. Even better, use Twitter for Leads Generation.  Click here to see how.

For example, a short post like “Buy my new e-book. Click here” Would not work. Basically, most of your followers are likely to be following you because they believe that you have something important to say or critical new information that will enable them to conduct their life better or to operate their business better.

How to Use Twitter for Profit

What you need to do is to entice your followers to click through to another website or blog by offering them something of value, preferably at no cost. For example, you could encourage them to register to a newsletter series offering training on a specific topic, or perhaps to download an e-book on a subject in which they might be interested. You could then use the newsletter to incorporate click through links to your sales page or to an affiliate site.

More specifically, you could say I just finished my new free report on the top 10 tips for blogging effectiveness, then post the link. People are far more likely to click through on a link for a free offer, particularly if it sounds like it offers something of true value for them.

Many companies use twitter as a form of mailing list to announce new product offerings, or new specials that are being offered by their business. If your followers are people who have special interest in the kinds of things that you offer, they are very likely to continue to follow you on twitter.

Twitter is also a great tool to use to build buzz before a new product launch, whether it is your product or an affiliate product that you may be promoting. This works particularly well if you have a lot of followers, and the sales copy You refer to them to is particularly compelling because it might build a chain reaction of twittering by a number of people.

As I indicated earlier, a lot of major companies, news agencies, and even political campaigns are using twitter to keep people informed about major events and important topics.

-BBC and Fox news post important new news events on twitter
-JetBlue is a major airline that uses twitter to inform potential customers of current promotions
- Pres. Obama used to twitter to send brief messages of encouragement to his campaign organization and to all others, who elected to follow his twitter site
-Apple is another company that uses twitter for news releases about its products.
